Flume Sound Massive Synth - Designing the Sound from Lorde - Tennis Court (Flume Remix)

Future Bass Massive Preset Remake

Flume Sound Massive Synth - Designing the Sound from Lorde - Tennis Court (Flume Remix) We sat down to take a shot at recreating the sound of flume's lead synth in his remix for "Lorde - Tennis Court (Flume Remix)". We're working with our Ableton Live 9 Suite version, Operator and NI Massive. After rebuilding the chords in the first step, we're dividing the sound into 6 layers in the second step:   Sub-Bass: We're using an instance of Operator and select a sine wave for our sub bass frequencies (update: we now put this together in a template and...

Creating your own "Synth" in 10 Steps with Ableton Instrument Racks

Ableton is a great tool for many things, for example creating your own "synth“. If you combine several Simpler or Sampler devices through Instrument Racks, plug in recorded synth audios and add some audio effects, you essentially create your very own basic "synth“.   Tutorial:  Steps: Find a great sound, take off all effects and modulations, making sure you get the raw sound and record it on several octaves (C1, C2, C3, C4 for example). Plug the C1 recording into a simpler device on a new MIDI channel.  Set your sampler device on Loop mode (optional) - adjusting the fades for...

Remake: How to sound like "Flume" using Ableton Live only

Ableton Chillstep Music Production Remake Sound Design

(Disclosure - You & Me (Flume Remix) style remake Ableton Live only) Since we are big fans of Flume's style, we kept asking ourselves how he does his sound design and melody editing. We figured the best way to find out was trying to remake one of his tracks. So we tried to decide which one of the following great tracks to pick (they are all really cool): Lorde - Tennis Court (Flume Remix), Flume & Chet Faker - Drop The Game, Flume - The Greatest View (feat. Isabella Manfredi), Disclosure - You & Me (Flume Remix). Great song ideas, awesome sound designs, not...

Splitting Sub-Bass Frequencies - Sub Separation

#PMLTipOfTheDay Ableton Future House Massive Music Production Skills

In this video, we’re focussing on sub separation. It doesn’t only apply for future house, but works the same for other genres like electro house, dubstep and drum n’ bass. The key concept is separating the sub bass frequencies from manipulations you’re applying on your sounds in the mid and higher frequencies. If we we’re for example going to use a bitcrusher on our bass sound, it would probably significantly stir up the sound in sub frequencies and add unwanted disturbing character to our mix.        Therefore, we separate our bass sounds in two or more parts:...

Music Production tips and tricks #57

#PMLTipOfTheDay

"EQing-Week: "Low Mids (250 Hz to 2 kHz). In general, you will want to emphasize the lower portion of this range and deemphasize the upper portion. Boosting the range from 250 Hz to 500 Hz will accent ambience in the studio and will add clarity to bass and lower frequency instruments. The range between 500 Hz and 2 kHz can make midrange instruments (guitar, snare, saxophone, etc.) “honky,” and too much boost between 1 kHz and 2 kHz can make your mix sound thin or “tinny.”“ - presonus.com [tipoftheday] EQing-Week: "Low Mids (250 Hz to 2 kHz).
