Yannek About Playing the Sub 37

Tweaking Moog

“The sub 37 is my go-to synth, even after buying other more expensive ones. I would like to stress that the Moog is not even a synth for me anymore but a full Instrument that wants to be played.

Playing the synth is one big part of the course: creating melodies that fade into bass lines, noise sweeps that merge into pads, and chord layers consisting of different Moog patches. With the Moog it is more than just creating one stable patch. I think this is why analog beats digital. Moving both your hands fast between real knobs without any mapping limitations.

I will give you a proper introduction to the Sub37 in the course. If you know subtractive synths already, you can simply skip to the productivity gems ;).”

What Do You Learn Exactly?

Well, the Moog is ONE subtractive synth of many out there working with the concept of subtractive synthesis too. This course uses the Moog as a medium to show you workflow boosts, patching tips and tricks, and compositional inspiration.

Of course, it’s easier if you have a Sub37 but really any synth with similar capabilities will work out. But you can adapt almost every concept from the class and put to use with u-he Diva for example.

Up and foremost this course wants to show you how fast and easy you can sound like YOURSELF (or anyone else, if you want to ;p).

About Yannek Maunz

Yannek Maunz holding Moog Sub37

Yannek Maunz - a Berlin-based producer, sound tinkerer and YION label co-owner.

“Creating this class was quite a challenge, but after I received a lot of positive feedback on my Sub 37 Video of the Berlin Dance Event I realized that there is a need on how to actually create music with the Sub 37. And after that it was just a natural idea to create it together with PML. I've been using the Sub 37 for over 5 years now, in nearly each of my productions and even though I wanted to switch to other synths from time to time, always came back to this monster.

Am I an expert on that synth? Well, I think that's hard to say, maybe in MY way of patching. You know, I think there are great tutorials out there about the Sub 37 but they are mainly about the technical side of it. I wanted to create something different: a class about how to actually USE the synth, how to compose with it, and how to achieve (in the fastest and most creative way) musical results with it. I will show you the process of patching from init to a finished sound. Every time. This is the most fun thing to do because you’ll learn exactly how to achieve a certain sound and you can develop your own style of playing and synthesizing. In the end it’s possible to transfer all the knowledge to any synth (hardware or software) but with Moog you will have it a lot easier (because it's all accessible with your hands).

This course contains all of my tricks and tips and workflow boosts I can think of and I hope it will help you create the music you want.

Best,
Yannek

What Artists Say About This Masterclass

Marius Drescher

Marius Drescher

Producer (Einmusika)

“For me it‘s always inspiring to see artists talking about their workflow. Especially when a talented and guy like Yannek shares some of his tips and secrets - it gives you a new perspective on a piece of equipment you may own yourself, but which you never used in a certain way before. Hats off!”

Solee Bio Pic

Solee

Producer (Parquet Recordings)

Yannek explains in an understandable way how you can easily get some great popular deep melodic house & techno sounds from scratch out of your SUB37. He also reveals a few valuable tricks about this wonderful synth that you shouldn´t miss. And as if that wasn´t enough you can learn something about composing along the way! Highly recommended!”

Fabian Sprungk Bio Pic

Fabian Sprungk

Producer (Yion)

“I’ve been using the Moog Sub37 for a few years now and Yannek just made me fall in love with this synth all over again. Not only is he explaining hidden features of the Sub37, but he also gives you inspiration for synthesis in general in a creative way where you want to open your daw and start a new song right away. Hold your pen and paper ready because there is a TON of input in this masterclass on how to do exactly that. A must-see for every producer at whatever stage!”

Mark Tarmonea Bio Pic

Mark Tarmonea

Producer (Eye and Eye)

“I think the strengths of the class are the pragmatic and musical tips and tricks. Yannek shows you how to actually play the synth without relying on presets. His Primary and Secondary approach teaches you how to create a patch and then how to play, modify and alternate it the way you want. So you will get a straight guide but with a lot of freedom in it.”
